Inventions: Invented 36 technologies/innovations including 12 world’s firsts.

Mentoring and training: Trained over 600 students and fellows, and advanced training of 6,000 healthcare professionals by establishing patient care simulation centre.

Visionary Initiatives: Established Patient Care Simulation Centre, Biomedical Engineering program at two universities (Ottawa and Carleton), Medical Devices Innovation Institute and Medical Devices Commercialization Centre (MDCC).

Business Initiatives: Led the formation of several spin-offs. One technology alone (Heart Savor) formed a corporation, brought over $650 million in investment, created 1,000 man years of jobs, took the company public (NASDAQ & TSX), and oversaw the acquisition of a major division from Baxter, a large American corporation.

Publications: Published over 500 books, papers, technical reports, and editorials.

Examples of Service: Was sought and provided advice to Canada, UK, USA, Japan, China, India and Brazil. Appointed member of Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Science and Technology (last 3 Prime Ministers).

Examples of Awards and Honours: Nominated to the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (2015). Received CIHR Knowledge Translation Award, Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal, NRC Lifetime Achievement Award, NSERC Synergy Award for Innovation, MEDEC Medical Achievement, Brazilian Cardiac Surgeons Award, and Ottawa Life Sciences Entrepreneurial Award. Selected Fellow at Royal Society, New York Academy of Sciences, European Academy of Science.
